In order to attract more aspiring spinners, we have designed a budget spinning wheel: the S17. This wheel comes as an unlacquered, self assembly kit. Costly and wasteful machining processes are also avoided by the use of birch plywood as the main construction material. The technical specifications are related to our S10. A lazy kate with two bobbins is included. The best features of the Louet wheels are that they treadle lightly, are easy to learn on and can be modified to satisfy expert spinners. The orifice is sufficiently large (1/2"), as are the bobbins (180-250gr capacity) to allow you to create novelty yarns. All wheels come equipped with a two bobbin Lazy Kate. Technically all the models (except S45, Victoria) are the same, each wheel has a single belt bobbin drive with an adjustable flyer brake to regulate tension and the flexible polyurethane belts never have to be adjusted. All bobbins have a sheave with three settings on one side, that can be used to obtain three spinning speeds (Ratios: 1: 5.5 slow spinning and heavy yarn, 1: 7.5 medium yarn and 1:10.5 fast spinning and fine yarn). The fly wheels are 20" in diameter. Finally, an excellent spinning wheel must turn freely and quietly, accordingly, we use maintenance-free ball bearings in the main hub and at the footman connection (no lubrication required).
